Our graphic designers have put together some tips and tricks to help you create beautiful screens. This one covers graphics and diagrams.
Graphics, diagrams and icons are a great way to break up blocks of text. While we recommend keeping icons small, you can experiment a bit with larger graphics and diagrams, particularly when you don't have a lot of text on a screen.
Graphics
Try to match the height of your image height to the amount of content, especially when there is more than one text object on the screen. This will help you avoid too much white space that disrupts the flow of reading.
Add graphics to your questions to make them more engaging:
Diagrams
Diagrams are different from graphics in the following ways:
-
they include a 'zoom' function, allowing learners to expand the diagram to view it more closely
-
they include title and description fields, which support screen-readers, so that your learning experience is accessible
-
you can add more than one language version of a diagram, if you're creating multi-lingual experiences
For these reasons, you should always use diagrams for any image that conveys information or substance in the learning.
